Boat Fishing for Zander on the Elbe — How to Find the Walleyes

The Elbe is one of Germany's premier zander rivers — and fishing from a boat is the only way to truly unlock its potential. If you only know the Elbe from the bank, you're missing the real hotspots: current edges, groin fields, and deep channels that are virtually unreachable from shore. With the Njörd and three Lowrance HDS Pro fishfinders on board, we scan the river systematically. ActiveTarget 2 Live shows us in real-time where zander are holding and how they react to our lures. It's an absolute game-changer — instead of fishing blind, we see exactly at what depth the fish are active. My setup for Elbe zander: rods between 2.40 m and 2.70 m with a casting weight of 10–40 g. My go-to lures are soft plastics between 10 and 14 cm — Keitech Easy Shiner, Lunker City Fin-S Fish, and the OSP Dolive Shad have all proven themselves. Jig heads between 10 and 21 g depending on current and water depth. 0.10 mm PE braid with a 0.28 mm fluorocarbon leader provides enough sensitivity for the often subtle bites. The best tactic: we drift downstream slowly with the trolling motor, fishing the groin fields and edges vertically or with a light upstream cast. Zander often hold in the current shadows behind the groins, right at the seam between slack and moving water. In spring and autumn, the twilight hours are most productive — but on the Elbe we regularly catch well during the day too, as long as the water has the right turbidity. One tip: don't underestimate the Elbe. Zander of 80 cm and above swim here — and they fight significantly harder in current than in still water.

Fishing in Sweden — Predator Adventures in Småland

Sweden is the promised land for many anglers — and rightly so. Few countries in Europe offer as much water, as little fishing pressure, and such healthy fish populations. I've been making regular trips to Småland for several years, and every tour confirms it: Sweden is different. The lakes in Småland are crystal-clear, often only a few metres deep, and surrounded by endless forests. No concrete banks, no commercial shipping, no crowds at the water. Instead: absolute tranquility, pike over one metre, and perch that would be considered fish of a lifetime in Germany. On top of that, strong zander populations in the murkier, deeper lakes of the region. We bring the Njörd to Sweden — the Finval 555 Sport Angler is easily transported via ferry on its trailer and ready to launch within minutes. With Lowrance electronics and the trolling motor, we're immediately operational even on unfamiliar waters. What makes Sweden so special: the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten) allows free camping and movement in nature. With a Fiskekort — an affordable fishing permit often available online or at the local supermarket — you gain access to hundreds of lakes. Many waters see barely any fishing pressure and hold surprisingly strong populations. My favourite setup for Sweden: for pike, a 2.40 m rod rated 30–100 g, rigged with Bulldawgs, jerkbaits, or large soft plastics. For perch and zander, I switch to a lighter rod rated 7–28 g and fish with drop shot rigs or small soft plastics on 5–10 g jig heads. A wire leader is mandatory in Sweden — pike lurk everywhere. Best timing: late May to early July for post-spawn pike and the active perch season. September and October are perfect for trophy zander in the deeper lakes. If you experience the midsummer nights, you'll be fishing in daylight until nearly midnight — an unforgettable experience. We offer Sweden trips as multi-day tours. Accommodation, boat, electronics, and guiding — everything from a single source. Once you've fished in Sweden, you'll always want to come back.
